Wonder Butterflies

Early social, play and language skills group

  • Late talkers

    Kids with limited vocabulary

    Kids who are using mostly single words; not combining words yet

    Kids who are using limited phrases

    Children who may have limited social interaction
    opportunities

    Children who are AAC users are welcome, to join the group, provided they have an existing AAC device that they currently use

  • Greeting, self-introduction

    Turn taking during play

    Improved participation and engagement in play

    Expanding vocabulary including verbs and adjectives

Wonder Explorers

Developing social, play and language skills group

  • Late talkers

    Kids with limited variety in language

    Kids who have difficulty asking and answering questions or telling you about an event or short stories

  • Turn taking during play

    Expanding pretend play → dramatic role play

    Initiating and sustaining interactions with others during play

    Working together in a small group for a common purpose

    Early problem solving for simple problems (what can we do if…?)

    Understanding and answering a range of wh-questions

    Describing a scenario using short sentences

    Improving understanding of spatial concepts

    Identifying and labelling a range of emotions

  • Circle time

    Sensory play - (art, foam, water, sand, beads)

    Free play time targeted at Pretend play → encouraging role play

Higher-level social + language skills

  • Children who are keen to engage in conversations but struggle to sustain one

    Children with basic sequencing and story-telling skills who want to expand their narrative development

    Children who need support for group work in school

  • - Conversational skills: topic maintenance, sharing perspectives

    - Initiating and sustaining interactions with peers

    Building confidence in communication skills in a safe space

    Understanding social cues

    Using language for negotiation and problem solving

    Retelling stories

    Creating short narratives using wh-questions and basic story plan

    Commenting & asking and answering a range of questions (opinions, justifications, predictions)

    Following group plan to collaborate for a task or to solve problems
