She is committed to building meaningful connections with children, which she believes are fundamental to fostering engagement and facilitating learning. Lavinia also recognises the crucial role that caregivers play in a child’s development, and she works closely with families to empower them in supporting their child’s communication and overall growth.

As a mother of two young children, Lavinia brings a personal understanding of the concerns parents often have regarding their child’s milestones and development. She focuses on the caregivers' concerns and collaborates with them to provide tailored, effective strategies that support their child’s progress.

Lavinia has extensive experience in assessing and treating children with a broad range of communication difficulties, including speech delays, language disorders (across early-language and school-age language), picky eating, stuttering, and social skills difficulties. This includes the planning for and collaborating with occupational therapists for the implementation of social communication groups for primary-school and secondary-school students over a period of two to four weeks. Key activities include: role-playing scenarios, reflection, group discussions, and negotiation exercises to simulate peer interactions so that students learn to apply social communication strategies effectively. Throughout the programme, student progress was actively monitored to evaluate the effectiveness of the interventions, to allow for adjustments to be made and to remain responsive to individual needs and foster meaningful participation for all.

Her journey began at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH), where she gained invaluable experience working with a diverse paediatric population, from premature infants to school-aged children. Lavinia was a clinic lead and a key member of several multidisciplinary teams, including the early-language and social skills clinic. She is also a certified clinical supervisor with the Allied Health Professions Council and enjoys mentoring and guiding junior therapists and students, helping to nurture the next generation of speech-language professionals.
