Bjorem Speech in Singapore: Childhood Apraxia of Speech - Assessment, Diagnosis & Treatment

Training Date: Singapore, February 17, 2025

Trainer: Jennie Bjorem M.A., CCC-SLP, Childhood Apraxia Specialist

Introduction

A recent survey conducted by Bjorem Speech® gathered insights from over 1,500 speech-language pathologists (SLPs), revealing that more than 88% identify as beginners or learners in the field of Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS). This highlights a critical need for training, as SLPs who lack confidence in diagnosing, explaining, and treating CAS may face challenges in supporting teachers, parents, paraprofessionals, and administrators in assisting children with this disorder.

This course will address these needs by defining CAS and exploring its characteristics, especially how it differs from other speech disorders, using video examples for clarity. Participants will be guided through the evaluation process, learning how to select therapy targets and set appropriate goals. We’ll cover various therapeutic approaches, with an emphasis on Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC) and motor-based planning strategies. Additionally, we’ll introduce multi-sensory cueing techniques and how to integrate these cues effectively into therapy.

Real-life video footage of preschool and early school-age children engaged in therapy will be included to illustrate practical strategies, enhancing understanding and application of techniques for treating CAS.

Learning Objectives
